The name Steelhead refers both to the building material and to the fish. We believe in a sustainable co-existence of the built and natural environments. We also believe in a regional modernist view of architecture that sees the beauty both in our rivers and forests as well as our industrial landscapes.
Steelhead Architecture is a design office focused on commercial and residential architecture plus urban design and planning. Steelhead was opened in 2010 by Gabriel Headrick, AIA after 15 years of work in both Portland and San Francisco. Commercial specialties include breweries and pubs as well as adaptive re-use of existing buildings. Residential specialties include new construction and remodels particularly in a modern or mid-century modern style.
Activism and volunteering for our community are important aspects of Steelhead Architecture. Gabe has acted as both president and land use chair of the Reed Neighborhood Association. He has also been selected for the City of Portland Policy Expert Group (PEG) for residential development which advises the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability on development policies. Additional organizations we participate in include the Oregon Brewers Guild and the Beverage Industry Networking Group (BING).
